Microneedling

Improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars

Just like the rest of your body, your skin ages, too. As years pass by, your skin reduces the production of essential proteins like collagen, which is responsible for making your face look fuller and younger.

Microneedling is a state-of-the-art procedure that can help jumpstart collagen production in your skin, allowing you to remove signs of aging. Within a few weeks of the treatment, your skin will look brighter and more volumized.

Dr. Alexis Gordon and her team at Renew MD Facial Aesthetics have a passion for building patient’s skin confidence with microneedling treatments for patients of all ages.

Who can undergo microneedling?

One of the strongest benefits about microneedling is that it is very helpful in treating many dermal conditions such as:

  • Sun damage
  • Pigmentation
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Poor skin texture
  • Skin dullness
  • Stretch marks

It is a minimally-invasive procedure that can be undergone by almost anyone.

Benefits of microneedling

In a microneedling treatment, specialized needles are used to penetrate the surface of the skin, creating micro-channels in the process. The body produces collagen to heal these micro-channels and replace the damaged skin cells with new, healthy ones. When this collagen floods your skin, you can notice there is a reduced appearance of aging and your skin looks fuller.

In addition to facilitating collagen production, microneedling also stimulates the production of elastin in the skin. Elastin is the protein responsible for firmer and supple skin. When elastin levels increase, your skin starts to tighten and large pores start to close. Additionally, minor wrinkles and facial lines start to disappear, leaving you looking youthful and refreshed.

Microneedling also facilitates the flushing-out of toxins. As minute punctures are made in your skin, any debris, pathogens, or toxins lodged in your skin get thrown out. This is one of the reasons why microneedling also reduces the appearance of acne.

Microneedling

SkinPen – cutting-edge microneedling technology

At Renew MD Facial Aesthetics, our licensed team uses the SkinPen to provide microneedling treatments. This is the first FDA-approved microneedling pen designed to offer the most precise collagen induction therapy, allowing your skin to heal and appear younger.

SkinPen possesses multiple needles that create hundreds of tiny channels deep inside your skin. The super-fast motion of the needles allows our experts to quickly treat large sections of the skin in a short time.

The SkinPen is so gentle on the skin that there are hardly any signs of the punctures created by the microneedles. The pen can be used to treat the face, neck, and décolletage. It is uniquely designed to be used for all skin types, textures, and thicknesses.

Why choose SkinPen microneedling over other types?

Technically, microneedling is a type of dermarolling procedure. However, conventional dermarollers aren’t as effective as SkinPen microneedling pens.

The SkinPen creates punctures vertically, reducing the chances of any tissue tears. This makes microneedling very comfortable, almost pain-free, and safer. You also recover faster from SkinPen microneedling than you do from conventional dermarolling.

Also, SkinPen microneedling comes with adjustable length needles, which traditional dermaroller pens don’t have. This makes it easier for our staff to provide bespoke treatments needed to address your unique cosmetic requirements. The needles used in SkinPen are disposable — making it more hygienic and sanitary. Finally, SkinPen microneedling pens are designed to access difficult to reach places, such as the sides of the nose, the ends of the lip, or around the eyes. You’ll be able to experience complete facial rejuvenation as a result.

What to expect during the procedure

The microneedling treatment is very gentle on the skin, but the needles can feel prickly to some people. We apply numbing cream to your face to make the procedure comfortable.

Then we apply a layer of hyaluronic acid on your skin and then gently run the SkinPen across your face. We start with one small section, working in the area until the skin starts to pinken. Then we move over to another section of the skin.

After the procedure, your skin may look inflamed and irritated. There may even be minor bleeding, but these will subside in a few hours.

Post-procedure skincare routine

  • Don’t apply any cosmetics or sunscreen for at least 12 hours after the treatment
  • Switch over to skin-safe mineral cosmetics
  • After the first 18 hours, wash your face with lukewarm water and a skin-friendly face wash
  • You can restart medication or topicals about 2-3 days after the treatment
  • Moisturize using SPF 30+ sunscreen every day — otherwise, you’ll be vulnerable to sunburns and skin damage
  • Don’t apply any alcohol-based products to your skin for a week

How long do the results of microneedling last?

While your skin certainly looks better after microneedling, you’ll begin to see the real results of the treatment about 4-6 weeks after the procedure. By this time, collagen production will have increased in your skin, improving its tone and texture. These results usually last for 2-3 months, after which you’ll need to come in for treatment again.

Another important benefit about microneedling is that every time you undergo the treatment, you build on the collagen base you have, making you look younger and brighter for ages.
